I’ve had another contamination issue crop up that had me dealing with symptoms and tracking down the cause for the past week and a half or so.  It turned out it was another issue with my vitamins and supplements.  This time, I believe it was from contamination of one of my supplements from the manufacturer, rather than through my mishandling, or an actual ingredient in it that is tied to one of my reactive foods.

Many people going gluten-free or on other diets will advise not to eat processed foods and just eat whole foods or dishes prepared from scratch. This is definitely not bad advice. Whole foods are very nutritious and should form the base of any diet. However, processed foods definitely have a place, and some can even be healthy. I like to see black-and-white proof of things I believe to be true in order to confirm my feelings and to prove the correctness of my feelings to others. When telling others about something that’s been done or said, I like to show them proof in an e-mail or some other thing that can be seen or heard. Physical, conclusive proof is important to me for a lot of things, and I struggle hard when I don’t have confirmation of what I think is true. That’s what’s made things so hard for me while dealing with all these food issues. I continue to be amazed by the things I’m discovering that are causing me issues. It’s hard at times not to deny these things and not start to think about something else possibly causing issues. It’s hard not to think that I’m going crazy. It seems like the tiniest traces cause me symptoms, and they seem to come from some pretty unlikely places. I have to admit that every time I run across someone talking about the positive aspects of living with celiac disease, gluten sensitivity, or a food allergy, I just want to shake my head or 3873147-100266629_8-v1roll my eyes. I know and understand that they want to help those of us dealing with these issues to feel better about things, but their words just don’t ring true to me at all. Many of them just ring hollow. “They’re no different from cancer. Or heart disease. Or allergies. And when’s the last time you heard of anyone being judged for those?”

This is a quote that appeared at the end of an article that I had read in a magazine. It was actually a really good article that was trying to raise awareness of a class of illnesses for which those who had them faced all kinds of difficulties, including judging from their peers. However, at the end, I believe it pushed these other illnesses to the sidelines, seeming to dismiss the idea that the people who experience these illnesses face judgment and other negative feelings and behaviors from their peers.
